First up, some updates...
I just wrapped up my round of edits on Cassandra L. Thompson's upcoming book, Welcome to Meadowbrook. Y'all. Incredible.
The blurb:
"A psychiatric facility.
An upscale hotel.
A casino.
A place for wellness.
A retreat.
No matter the decade, the towering edifice perched on the top of a mountain inspires both awe and fear. Holding the secrets of all who have walked her halls (and those who haunt them still), Meadowbrook’s facade shifts with time. But there is one constant that remains unchanged—Meadowbrook makes her own rules. Told in a series of short stories from alternating viewpoints, each from a different era, discover the unique tale of a place that is much more than what it seems. "
This exceptional story contains many of the elements I love best in story: time travel, character-driven narratives (from a variety of perspectives), real-world issues (depression, burnout, anxiety, and many more) told in a compelling manner, and a flashy villain. It's not often that I fall in love with stories I'm editing - I'm usually able to separate myself from the narrative. Not so with Welcome to Meadowbrook, which will find it's home on my bookshelves alongside Thompson's other works, The Ancient Ones trilogy and Dark Queen's Apothecary. She is a rare author who excels in any genre she puts her mind to; I've yet to find a book of hers that I haven't loved.

You can pre-order Welcome to Meadowbrook from The Crow Shoppe here.
Onto Mistress of Night news...
As you all know, I'm wrapping up another draft of Mistress of Night right now, and it is possible that Reisu may demand a full novel of her own, rather than the novella I have planned for her. I'll keep you updated here if the publication date changes to accommodate the additional chapters that keep coming out of me!
Reisu and Maddox's story began swirling in my brain as I was writing Daughter of Shadows. Originally intended as minor characters meant to push a portion of Sayah and Kage's story forward, they created a small subplot for themselves and inserted themselves into the endgame of the plot. As soon as the banter started, I knew my next Ship's Haven story would center around them. Reisu's origin as a wraith was the perfect starting point.
