"She waited for the chiming to cease, barely breathing as she listened and hoped. A soft groan came from the parlor door and Elena whipped her head around, eyes wide. Her breath caught in her throat.

“Sebastian,” she whispered, her hand over her heart.

Wisps of smoke and shadow coalesced into the figure of a towering beast, his dark eyes glowing, wavy hair flowing in a mane around his face.

“Elena,” he said through lips that did not move."
